Sandy Hook family have received $1 billion judgement against Alex Jones

Alexander Emerick Jones is a well-known American far-right and alt-right radio show host and conspiracy theorist who was born on February 11, 1974. Alex Jones was ordered by the court in the Sandy Hook defamation case to pay nearly $1 billion.

The families of the eight victims of the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting were earned $965 million in damages by a New york state jury on Wednesday for the far-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones’s false claims that the murder was a fake story.

Why it’s important In regards to the $49.3 million in damages that Jones was ordered by a different Texas jury to pay to the parents of a 6-year-old boy killed in the school shooting in August, Jones has now been awarded at least $965 million.

After three weeks of witness statements in Waterbury, Connecticut, about 20 miles from where a shooter in 2012 killed 20 children and six teachers at Sandy Hook Elementary School close to Newtown using an AR-15-style rifle, the jury started discussing last Thursday.
A defendant in the defamation lawsuit is also an FBI agent who was the first on the scene after the shooting.
The plaintiffs’ attorney had demanded that the jury award the families and FBI agent more than $500 million in damages from Jones and his business, Free Speech Systems.
Jones wasn’t present when the verdict was announced words out loud in the courtroom.

The families’ lead attorney Chris Mattei declared, “Today, a court representing our community rendered a historic verdict, a verdict against Alex Jones’ lies and their poisonous spread, and a verdict for truth and our common humanity.”

After the verdict, Robbie Parker, whose daughter Emilie, age 6, was killed in the shooting, said: “I couldn’t be more proud to stand here with all of these people.”

Jones made the false claim that the shooting was a “false flag” operation planned by the government using “crisis actors” to restrict gun rights for years, mostly through his website and radio program Latest news and updates.
