Tulsi Gabbard quits Democratic Party

Tulsi Gabbard, a former congresswoman and potential 2020 presidential candidate, declared on Tuesday that she is quitting the Democratic Party

The announcement marks the end of a period of time during which Gabbard’s disagreement with the Democratic Party and its policies has grown:

Tulsi Gabbard announced:

I’m sorry, but I’m no longer able to support the Democratic Party. In a video posted to social media, Gabbard claimed that the country was now entirely under the control of an elitist cabal of war mongers motivated by cowardly wokeness. They “divide us by racializing every issue, stoking anti-white racism, and actively work to undermine our God-given freedoms established in our Constitution,” she said. Her new program, The Tulsi Gabbard Show, included the announcement in an episode about the opening ceremony.

Tulsi Gabbard created history in the democratic world:

Just after her election in 2012, Gabbard made history by becoming the first American Samoan and practising Hindu in Congress. She also criticised Democrats’ “open border” policies and rhetoric against police, which she claimed were inconsistent with the constitution.

Long a distinctive and occasionally controversial voice in the Democratic Party, the former congresswoman served as the 2nd district representative for Hawaii.

She touted her service in the Iraq War and outlined a distinctly non-interventionist foreign policy as one of the Democratic candidates for president in the crowded 2020 field. She was a co-sponsor of several bills intended to keep migrant families together at the border and blamed US intervention in Latin America during the campaign for the instability that led to the spike in migration across the southern US border.
